The Division of Urology at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is enhancing its treatment approach by integrating psychological services. This initiative aims to address the complex nature of urologic health comprehensively.

Dr. Anna Cruz and Dr. Kerry Gagnon, the two psychologists in the Urology division, collaborate with the clinical team to provide specialized support for children and families. Their work focuses on improving daily functioning and overall well-being amid various urologic conditions such as bladder function issues, bladder exstrophy, surgical reconstruction needs, kidney stones, spina bifida, and differences in sex development.

Families have the option to meet with Dr. Cruz and Dr. Gagnon either in-person or virtually. The psychologists assist with a range of concerns including behavioral barriers to toilet training, preparation for surgery or procedures, anxiety related to medical treatments or medications, depression due to chronic urologic conditions, adherence to medical regimens, adjustment to new diagnoses, coping with chronic pain, and parenting challenges associated with a urology diagnosis.

To access these psychological services, patients must first be established within CHOP’s Division of Urology. Appointments for both medical and psychology consultations can be arranged by contacting their team at 215-590-2754.
