Congressman Dwight Evans, who represents Pennsylvania’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, addressed his opposition to recent federal policies and clarified a common misconception about his identity in a series of posts on August 15, 2025.

On that day, Evans posted: “In case you saw a weird Facebook ad – I want Philadelphians to know that I voted NO on Trump’s budget bill. I strongly oppose this new law’s massive cuts to Medicaid and SNAP- especially since the cuts are funding more tax breaks to the rich.” (August 15, 2025). In a subsequent message, he added: “And for the record, I’m also not the retired Boston Red Sox player- he’s a different Dwight Evans.” (August 15, 2025).

Later that same day, Evans expressed concerns about potential manipulation of economic indicators by federal authorities. He wrote: “If the Trump administration rigs inflation & consumer price index reports, seniors will still have to pay higher prices – WITHOUT accurate cost-of-living adjustments to their Social Security benefits. Many will be forced to choose between paying for rent, food, and medicine.” (August 15, 2025).

Evans has served in Congress since replacing Chaka Fattah in 2016 as representative of Pennsylvania’s 3rd district and previously held office in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1981 until his election to Congress. Born in Philadelphia in 1954 and currently residing there at age 68, Evans is also an alumnus of La Salle University with a Bachelor of Arts degree earned in 1975.
