Congressman Dwight Evans, representing Pennsylvania’s 3rd district since 2016, has shared his thoughts on recent political and social issues through a series of tweets. Evans, who succeeded Chaka Fattah in Congress and previously served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1981 to 2016, addressed topics ranging from healthcare policy to Juneteenth celebrations.
On June 18, 2025, Congressman Evans highlighted concerns about potential budget cuts proposed by the GOP. He stated that even those not enrolled in Medicaid could be affected by these cuts. “Not on Medicaid? Here’s how the GOP’s budget cuts would still affect you: From hospitals and ERs to nursing homes and family caregivers to public health programs and industry jobs, as Robert I. Field writes, the ‘ripple effects of shrinking Medicaid would be felt by everyone”.
The following day, June 19, 2025, Evans reflected on Juneteenth—a holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States—emphasizing ongoing efforts towards achieving freedom and equality for all citizens. He remarked that while progress has been made, there remains significant work ahead. “This Juneteenth, as we celebrate the progress our nation has made, let us reflect on the work still to be done- because the fight for freedom and equality for ALL is far from over.”
Dwight Evans was born in Philadelphia in 1954 and continues to reside there. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from La Salle University in 1975.
