Congressman Dwight Evans, currently serving Pennsylvania’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, shared a series of tweets highlighting his advocacy work and reflections on legislative issues. Evans has been representing the district since 2016, succeeding Chaka Fattah. Prior to his congressional role, he served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1981 to 2016.
On June 16, Evans criticized proposed budget cuts by the GOP that would affect the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). He stated “SNAP food aid has lifted hundreds of thousands in PA out of poverty, helping keep families healthy and strong. But the GOP’s #ReverseRobinHood Budget would slash this program.” He included a quote from Anna Fry, a nurse in Philadelphia: “Cuts to SNAP will create preventable crises that touch every.”
Later that day, Evans reflected on his past involvement with the National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL), sharing “When I was in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, I was proud to be a part of the @NBCSL77! Last week, it was great to speak with some of their members about the important work they’re doing in state legislatures across the country.”
On June 17, Evans discussed his commitment to foster youth as part of his congressional duties. He tweeted about hosting Elizabeth for Foster Youth Shadow Day and expressed his dedication to amplifying foster youth voices within Congress: “As a member of the Congressional Caucus on Foster Youth, I was pleased to host Elizabeth for Foster Youth Shadow Day! In Congress, I’m committed to ensuring foster youth voices are uplifted and heard, especially as we work to better the foster care system.”
