Congressman Dwight Evans, who has been serving Pennsylvania’s 3rd district since 2016 after replacing Chaka Fattah, recently shared a series of tweets addressing current political issues. Evans, who announced his retirement plans set for 18 months from now, continues to focus on pressing matters affecting his constituents.
On July 2, 2025, Evans expressed gratitude for the retirement wishes he received but emphasized that his immediate focus remains on opposing the GOP’s budget proposal. He stated, “Thank you everyone for the kind retirement wishes! That’s still 18 months away – today, I’m focused on fighting the GOP’s budget that strips nearly 500,000 Pennsylvanians of their health care and will force hospital & nursing home closures across PA.”
Later that day, Evans criticized Republican budget priorities in another tweet. He highlighted a controversial tax break and wrote, “While gutting SNAP food aid for children & families, Republicans are providing a $2 BILLION tax break for gun silencers. I denounced this handout to the gun lobby in @waysmeanscmte and will keep fighting it on the floor.”
On July 3, 2025, Evans addressed potential dissatisfaction among Pennsylvanians regarding healthcare and social services cuts. He remarked that such actions could lead to more departures from Congress: “Pennsylvanians don’t like it when you take away their health care, food, hospitals or nursing homes! I may not be the only PA member leaving Congress 18 months from now.”
Dwight Evans was born in Philadelphia in 1954 and currently resides there. Before joining Congress in 2016, he served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1981 to 2016.
