U.S. Congressman Dwight Evans, who represents Pennsylvania’s 3rd district and has served in Congress since 2016, recently used his social media platform to criticize Republican lawmakers for their actions regarding transit funding and federal economic policy.
On August 25, 2025, Evans drew a comparison between national and state-level Republican lawmakers in a post stating, “Like Republicans in Congress fled DC to avoid voting on releasing the Epstein files- Republican state senators fled Harrisburg rather than passing REAL transit funding. This is not a game. SEPTA didn’t choose to cut its services. (1/2)”.
Continuing his criticism on the same day, Evans wrote, “Because of Republican state senators’ inaction, Philadelphia students, seniors, and working families are being punished. If they want to turn their backs on their constituents, PA Senate Republicans always have the option to vacate their seats so someone else can do the job.”
The following day, Evans shifted focus to national economic policy by addressing actions attributed to former President Donald Trump: “Instead of working to lower costs for the American people, Trump is harming our economy and your family budget with a baseless, illegal attempt to fire a Federal Reserve board member.”
Evans’ remarks come as part of ongoing debates over public transportation funding in Pennsylvania. The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) has faced service reductions amid financial shortfalls and legislative disputes over new funding sources. In recent years, partisan disagreements have led to delays or failures in passing measures intended to support regional transit systems.
Born in Philadelphia in 1954 and an alumnus of La Salle University (BA 1975), Evans has been active in public service for decades—first as a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1981 until joining Congress in 2016.
