Congressman Dwight Evans, representing Pennsylvania’s 3rd district, has been vocal on social media regarding recent legislative activities. His comments reflect his stance on tax policies and healthcare initiatives.
On May 14, 2025, Congressman Evans expressed his disapproval of the GOP tax-cut bill during an extensive markup session by the Ways and Means Committee. He criticized the inclusion of a $1.4 billion tax break aimed at making gun silencers more affordable. Despite his objections, “Ultimately the Republican majority approved the bill with the gun silencer tax break included, sending it to” further legislative processes.
Later that day, Evans acknowledged the efforts of activists who supported Democratic members during the prolonged committee session. He conveyed gratitude towards those who opposed what he described as another series of tax cuts favoring wealthy individuals: “Thanks to all the activists who showed up to back up Democratic members of the @WaysMeansCmte as we spent nearly 18 hours fighting another round of tax cuts for the rich!”
In a subsequent tweet on May 15, 2025, Evans affirmed his support for Governor Shapiro’s stance on Medicaid. Drawing from his experience as a former appropriations chair in Pennsylvania’s House, he stated: “As a former 20-year PA House appropriations chair, I can confirm that @GovernorShapiro is correct about this! #SaveMedicaid”
Dwight Evans has served in Congress since 2016 after succeeding Chaka Fattah. Prior to this role, he was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1981 to 2016. Born in Philadelphia in 1954 and currently residing there, Evans graduated from La Salle University with a BA in 1975.
