Congressman Dwight Evans, representing Pennsylvania’s 3rd district, has taken to social media to express his concerns regarding recent legislative developments. A member of the U.S. Congress since 2016, Evans shared his thoughts on the impact of Senate Republicans’ decisions on a bipartisan House bill and the current state of negotiations involving House Republicans.
On July 2, 2025, Congressman Evans highlighted the potential benefits for children in Pennsylvania from a bipartisan House bill developed by the Ways and Means Committee. According to Evans, “506,000 PA children would have benefited from the bipartisan House bill that we created in the @WaysMeansCmte last year – but Senate Republicans said No”.
In another post made on the same day, Evans criticized House Republicans for their stance towards Senate decisions. He remarked that “House Republicans love to roll over for the Senate.” He referenced a rejected tax package which aimed at expanding child and business tax credits, expressing skepticism about future actions by stating: “And now House Republicans are getting ready to chicken out again.”
Later that day, Congressman Evans further commented on what he perceives as a lack of influence held by House Republicans compared to senators from smaller states like Alaska. In his view, “House Republicans have 1/1000th the clout of a senator from Alaska & they KNOW it.” He also pointed out unresolved issues such as concessions on debt or spending and changes needed in Medicaid policies.
Dwight Evans was born in Philadelphia in 1954 and currently resides there. Before joining Congress in 2016 after replacing Chaka Fattah, he served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1981 to 2016. An alumnus of La Salle University with a BA degree obtained in 1975, Evans continues his legislative work focused on benefiting his constituents.
