Congressman Dwight Evans, who has represented Pennsylvania’s 3rd District in the U.S. Congress since 2016 after a long tenure in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, recently addressed issues related to federal funding and budget priorities on social media. In a series of posts dated July 14, 2025, Evans commented on actions by the Trump administration and congressional Republicans.
On July 14, 2025, Congressman Evans stated: “As the Trump administration is once again illegally withholding congressionally appropriated funding, I applaud Governor Shapiro’s swift actions to protect students across our Commonwealth!” This post highlighted his support for Governor Shapiro’s response to what he described as unlawful withholding of funds intended for students.
In a subsequent post on the same day, Evans elaborated on collective efforts within Congress: “Last week, I also joined 150 of my House Democratic colleagues in demanding the Trump Administration release this critical federal funding. As we fight the unlawful actions of this administration, it will take continued action from all levels of government!” He emphasized bipartisan advocacy for releasing withheld federal resources and called for ongoing governmental collaboration.
Later that evening, Evans criticized budget decisions by congressional Republicans: “While the congressional GOP’s budget provides tax breaks to people buying private jets, it doesn’t extend a tax cut that lowers health insurance premiums for everyday Americans. Their priorities are clear — help the rich get even richer, as hard-working Americans pay the price.” He contrasted benefits offered to wealthy individuals with policies affecting average citizens.
Dwight Evans was born in Philadelphia in 1954 and continues to reside there. He earned his BA from La Salle University in 1975 before beginning his public service career. His current term marks nearly a decade representing Pennsylvania’s 3rd District at the federal level.
