Jamie Garfield, MD, a professor of thoracic medicine and surgery at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, offered her perspective to Medscape regarding a recent study published in Thorax. The study found that people who consumed higher amounts of ultraprocessed foods had a significantly increased risk of developing lung cancer over 12 years compared to those who ate fewer ultraprocessed foods. Dr. Garfield did not participate in the research.
