Dr. Jeffrey Farma has been appointed as the Paul Grotzinger and Wilbur Raab Chair in Surgical Oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center, an honor that recognizes his contributions to cancer discovery and patient care. Endowed chairs are prestigious positions in academic medicine, serving both to honor influential figures and support leaders who uphold high standards of excellence.
“From his early days as an Assistant Professor, Dr. Farma has dedicated himself in every way to our Fox Chase mission of cancer discovery and delivery,” said the President and CEO of Fox Chase Cancer Center. Dr. Farma joined Fox Chase in 2009 after completing his medical degree at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, followed by a surgical residency at Temple University Hospital, and fellowships at the National Cancer Institute and Moffitt Cancer Center.
The endowed chair commemorates Paul Grotzinger, MD, who was instrumental in establishing Fox Chase’s reputation for excellence. It was made possible through a bequest from G. Wilbur Raab and contributions from Grotzinger’s family and friends.
“As the holder of this chair, Dr. Farma carries on Dr. Grotzinger’s legacy as current Chair of the Department of Surgery,” said a Division Chief of Surgical Oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center. Dr. Farma is noted for his clinical expertise in treating complex cancers such as colorectal cancers, gastrointestinal stromal tumors, sarcomas, melanoma, and other skin malignancies.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Farma is involved in mentoring students across various levels and serves on several boards for surgical and cancer societies nationally. He also participates actively in community service initiatives like the Melanoma Research Foundation’s Miles for Melanoma event.
“Fox Chase has a special way of nurturing great science and medicine, and the people who dedicate themselves to this work,” said Uzzo regarding Dr. Farma’s appointment.
