Congressman Dwight Evans, representing Pennsylvania’s 3rd district since 2016, recently addressed significant issues through a series of tweets. Evans, who succeeded Chaka Fattah and previously served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1981 to 2016, expressed his concerns about gun violence and criticized budgetary priorities set by former President Trump and Congressional Republicans.
On July 7, 2025, Congressman Evans shared his dismay over recent incidents of gun violence affecting Philadelphia communities. He stated: “I’m heartbroken that this holiday weekend, gun violence ripped through & shattered so many communities in our city.” Emphasizing the need for action at multiple governmental levels, he declared that “Every Philadelphian deserves a city free from gun violence!”
The following day, on July 8, Evans criticized the fiscal policies favored by Trump and Republican members of Congress. He tweeted: “It’s clear where Trump and Congressional Republicans’ priorities lie- and it’s not with hard-working American families.” He accused them of cutting SNAP food aid while providing substantial tax breaks for billionaires purchasing private jets.
Later on July 8, Evans continued his critique by addressing what he described as misleading claims regarding tax policy changes. He posted: “See the full story: Trump and Republicans’ disastrous budget does NOT eliminate taxes on Social Security benefits.” Evans suggested that if Republicans had thoroughly reviewed their own legislation before advancing it through Congress, they might have been more aware of its contents.
Born in Philadelphia in 1954 and a graduate of La Salle University with a BA in 1975, Dwight Evans has dedicated much of his life to public service within his home state.
