The Philadelphia Eagles have named Sean Mannion as their new offensive coordinator. Mannion, 33, moves into the role after a brief but notable coaching stint with the Green Bay Packers.

Mannion spent the past two seasons with the Packers, first as an offensive assistant in 2024 and then as quarterbacks coach last season. During his time in Green Bay, starting quarterback Jordan Love recorded 3,381 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, and six interceptions over 15 games. Backup Malik Willis also saw action, completing more than 85% of his passes for 422 yards.

Head Coach Nick Sirianni expressed confidence in the hire: “I’m thrilled to have Sean Mannion on board as the new offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles,” Sirianni said. “My goal throughout this process was to operate with an open mind regarding the future of our offense to find the best fit for the Eagles.

“Over the last few weeks, I had an opportunity to meet with a number of talented candidates and great offensive minds. I am appreciative of the time I was able to spend with each of them. Some came with years of experience running an offense and calling plays. Others were young, sharp, and dynamic coaches on the rise. I felt it was important to be patient and thorough to allow the right fit to reveal himself to us. Sean did just that.”

Mannion’s transition from player to coach has been rapid. He ended his playing career after spending time on practice squads for both the Minnesota Vikings and Seattle Seahawks during the 2023 season. The Packers hired him soon after his retirement from playing; within a year he advanced from offensive assistant to quarterbacks coach.

Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur commented on Mannion’s work ethic: “He’s got a bright future in this profession,” LaFleur said via A to Z Sports. “He attacks it the same way I knew he would when he was a player. Just extreme ownership of everything, puts in the time and goes above and beyond the call of duty, which is exactly what you want from your assistant coaches.”

Mannion has worked under several prominent NFL coaches including Sean McVay (Los Angeles Rams), Liam Coen (Jacksonville Jaguars), Kevin O’Connell (Minnesota Vikings), Kevin Stefanski (Atlanta Falcons), and Zac Taylor (Cincinnati Bengals). His coaching style is influenced by Mike Shanahan and Kyle Shanahan’s coaching tree.

Earlier this month at the East/West Shrine Bowl, Mannion served as offensive coordinator for the West Team—his first experience leading an offense as a coach—and helped secure a win while overseeing efficient performances from his quarterbacks.

Sirianni further praised Mannion’s approach: “It was quickly apparent in meeting with Sean that he is a bright young coach with a tremendous future ahead of him in this league,” Sirianni said. “I was impressed by his systematic views on offensive football and his strategic approach. Sean’s 11 years in the NFL have provided him a great opportunity to learn from and grow alongside some of the best coaches in the game. As a result, he has a wealth of knowledge and experience that will be invaluable to our team moving forward. I can’t wait to see Sean with our team, and I want to welcome him and his wife, Megan, to the Eagles family.”

Before entering coaching ranks, Mannion played nine seasons as an NFL quarterback after being drafted by St. Louis Rams in 2015 out of Oregon State University. He appeared in 14 games during his career—primarily as a backup—and completed nearly 61% of his passes for 573 yards.

At Oregon State, Mannion played 47 games and ranks among FBS all-time leaders with over 13,600 passing yards; he led Pac-12 quarterbacks in both passing yards (4,662) and touchdowns (37) during his junior year.
