The Philadelphia Eagles are preparing for a challenging matchup against the Detroit Lions, whose offense has been described as one of the most formidable in the NFL this season. The Lions, with a 6-3 record and averaging 31.4 points per game, will visit Lincoln Financial Field for Sunday night’s Salute to Service game.

Eagles defensive tackle Moro Ojomo commented on the strength of Detroit’s offensive line and running game: “I think this is one of the best offensive lines we’ll face. One of the best running attacks we’re going to face and we’re excited. We’ve been playing the run game better and we’re focusing on playing the run game better and that’s what we want – to go out there and stop the run.”

Detroit’s offense features several standout players. Running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery provide both speed and power in their ground attack. Tight end Sam LaPorta has recorded 40 receptions, three touchdowns, and 489 receiving yards so far this season. Wide receiver Amon Ra-St. Brown leads with 64 catches for 693 yards and eight touchdowns, while Jameson Williams recently had six receptions for 119 yards and a touchdown against Washington.

Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio acknowledged Detroit’s balanced offense: “They had (448) yards [last week], and about half of it was running and half of it was passing, so they were really good,” Fangio said. “They got a lot of talent on that side of the ball. They got the best O-line in the league, a quarterback, according to Dan (Campbell), playing the best he’s ever played, two good running backs, the receivers are all fast – it’s a good unit to be calling plays for.”

Head coach Dan Campbell took over play-calling duties for Detroit last week in their win over Washington, resulting in an average of eight yards per play during their 44-22 victory.

Cornerback Jakorian Bennett also spoke about Detroit’s approach: “They’re an explosive offense,” Bennett said. “They want to run the ball, run the ball, and get explosives off of that and when everyone starts to respect that a lot, they got good receivers – Jameson and St. Brown. Two good receivers. And I feel like they have a good scheme. They definitely bring some challenges and whatnot, but the opponent is in the room. We just got to focus on us, do our job, and feel like everything will handle itself.”

The Eagles’ defense is currently ranked tenth in points allowed per game at 21.3 after being ranked first last season.

As Philadelphia prepares for consecutive games against strong offenses—the Cowboys follow next week—Sunday night’s contest is expected to serve as an important test for Fangio’s retooled defense.
