The Philadelphia Eagles announced on Sunday that they have waived wide receiver Xavier Gipson. Gipson, who was claimed off waivers by the Eagles on September 22 after stints with the Jets and Giants earlier in the year, played five games for Philadelphia. During his time with the team, he served primarily as the lead punt returner, recording six returns for 67 yards, averaging 11.2 yards per return.

After Gipson suffered a shoulder injury in Week 12 against the Cowboys, Britain Covey was signed from the practice squad to take over punt return duties.

In addition to waiving Gipson, the Eagles have downgraded rookie offensive tackle Myles Hinton to out for Monday night’s game against the Chargers. Hinton has been on Injured Reserve all season due to a back injury but had been practicing fully in recent weeks. Despite this progress, he will not be activated for the upcoming game.

Safety Marcus Epps also remains on Injured Reserve with a shoulder injury. The team must decide whether to activate him by 4 PM on Monday if they wish to fill their open roster spot.
