Esha Velaga from the University of Pennsylvania was defeated by Luciana Perry of Ohio State in the opening round of the NCAA Singles Championships held in Orlando, Florida, on Tuesday, November 18.

Velaga started strong, quickly taking a 3-0 lead in the first set. Despite Perry narrowing the gap to 5-4, Velaga secured the first set with a score of 6-4. In the second set, Perry reversed momentum and established an early 4-0 advantage. Velaga was unable to recover as Perry won the second set decisively at 6-1.

With each player having won one set, they entered a decisive third set that began evenly at 2-2. Perry then gained control and went on a four-game run to win the final set 6-2.

Perry will move forward to compete in the round of 32 against either Ni Xi from Charlotte or Mao Mushika from California.
