During the opening quarter of 2026, Fair Acres Geriatric Center was the largest nursing home in Delaware County, as reported by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
The facility provided 778 beds, which was 635 more than the county’s average for nursing homes in the same period. On average, it cared for 439.8 residents per day during that quarter.
The CMS awarded Fair Acres Geriatric Center a 5 out of 5 overall rating, surpassing Pennsylvania nursing homes’ average rating of 3.
For the quarter, Pine View Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center ranked as the second largest nursing home in Delaware County with 298 available beds. St. Francis Center for Rehabilitation & Healthcare followed in third and had 273 beds available.
Fair Acres Geriatric Center reported no fines or penalties during the first quarter of 2026.
Delaware County, Pennsylvania, had one public nursing home on record.
Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau indicate that the country’s older adult population continues to rise while numbers for younger age groups decrease. Between 2020 and 2024, the total of Americans aged 65 and over rose by 13%, whereas those under 18 declined 1.7%. Over the last century, the older American population has sharply increased, from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million in 2024.
A study from 2021 projects that nearly half of older adults—about 28 million—could require long-term services or support, and more than one-third may eventually need nursing home care.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
