The Philadelphia Flyers were defeated by the Boston Bruins 6-3 at TD Garden on Thursday, continuing a difficult stretch with only two wins in their last twelve games.
Boston took control in the first period with goals from Viktor Arvidsson and Pavel Zacha. A potential goal for Christian Dvorak was overturned after a coach’s challenge for goaltender interference. The Bruins led scoring chances 12-5 in the opening frame.
Early in the second period, Fraser Minten extended Boston’s lead to three goals. Travis Konecny responded quickly for Philadelphia, but Casey Mittelstadt restored Boston’s three-goal cushion later in the period. Tanner Jeannot added another for Boston before Nikita Grebenkin scored off a rebound to close out the second period with Boston ahead 5-2.
In the third period, Marat Khusnutdinov scored an empty-net goal late in the game. Matvei Michkov managed a power-play goal for Philadelphia with less than two minutes remaining.
Samuel Ersson started in net for Philadelphia, making 15 saves on 20 shots before being replaced by Dan Vladar at the start of the third period. Vladar stopped all six shots he faced. Jeremy Swayman made 33 saves to secure the win for Boston.
The Flyers converted one of three power-play opportunities and killed off their only penalty against them.
Discussing individual performances, “Coming off a hat trick in Columbus, Travis Konecny entered the game as the Flyers’ leading scorer this season. He added to the total with his second period goal and assist.”
Despite containing Bruins star David Pastrnak—who had ten points over his previous five games—the Flyers could not prevent contributions from other members of Boston’s lineup: “Superstar Bruins winger David Pastrnak entered the game with 10 points in his last five outings. On Thursday, the Flyers managed to keep him off the scoreboard. However, Boston got plenty of production from other sources.”
Philadelphia will look to recover as they continue through their regular season schedule.
