Fox Chase Cancer Center has received renewed accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), marking the sixth consecutive time it has earned this recognition.

“Recognition from the NAPBC is a testament to the dedication and skills of our staff. It provides validation that Fox Chase Cancer Center provides top of the line care not only for breast cancer patients but those with benign disease as well,” said Bleicher, Clinical Director of the Breast Service Line, Chief of the Division of Breast Surgery, and Director.

Unlike some programs that may be reaccredited despite a limited number of noncompliant standards, Fox Chase passed every standard and metric in its latest review. This achievement highlights compliance with all NAPBC requirements during this reaccreditation process.

Bleicher noted the significant role played by NAPBC in raising standards for breast care nationally and internationally. He emphasized that Fox Chase was among the first centers accredited by NAPBC after its launch in 2006 and has maintained continuous accreditation since then. The NAPBC is one of the earliest Quality Programs established by the American College of Surgeons, setting benchmarks across all stages of cancer care—from prevention through survivorship—and serving as a key indicator for quality in breast care.

The NAPBC requires accredited centers to meet high standards through collaboration among various specialties. Its board includes representatives from many organizations covering medical specialties, allied health fields, and other disciplines involved in both malignant and benign breast disease care.

“We are appreciative of this distinction from the NAPBC and are very grateful to be in this position to be able to help women who are faced with both benign breast disease as well as the burden of cancer,” Bleicher said.

For nearly twenty years, Bleicher has supported NAPBC accreditation efforts and participated actively within its organization. He currently serves as Vice Chair of the NAPBC and Chair of its Executive Committee following several prior appointments within its quality program.

Breast centers must reapply for accreditation every three years based on current standards set out by the NAPBC Standards Manual. These standards include access to information, use of multidisciplinary teams, ongoing improvements in patient care, and communication about clinical trials or new treatments.

Fox Chase Cancer Center is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1904, it functions as a training hospital under President Dr. Robert Uzzo. In 2022, Fox Chase conducted over 5,000 surgeries and admitted more than 3,400 patients for treatment (https://www.foxchase.org/about-us/history).
