Independence Blue Cross (IBX) and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) have entered into a new multi-year agreement, effective July 1, 2025. This agreement will allow families with IBX health plans to continue accessing pediatric care at CHOP. The collaboration is aimed at enhancing children’s health in Philadelphia and its surrounding areas.
Dr. Richard Snyder, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Independence Blue Cross, stated, “We know that Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia plays a critical role in providing care to children and families in our region and are proud to continue our long-standing relationship with the hospital.” He added that the agreement reflects shared goals for improving health outcomes for children.
The partnership between IBX and CHOP has been ongoing for several decades, with their last agreement signed in 2020. During this period, they collaborated on projects like the Advanced Network for Gene-Based Therapeutics to provide access to gene-based therapies.
Madeline Bell, CEO of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, commented on the agreement: “Improving access to the latest innovations in pediatric care is an important part of our mission at CHOP.” She expressed gratitude towards IBX for their commitment to achieving optimal outcomes for children.
The new agreement focuses on enhancing care coordination and exploring value-based care initiatives. Both organizations aim to improve health outcomes while ensuring a seamless experience for patients and families.
