Jordan Davis has been named NFC Defensive Player of the Week following his performance against the Detroit Lions. In the game, Davis batted down three passes at the line of scrimmage, tying for the most by any player in a single game this season. His first tipped pass led to an interception by Cooper DeJean, which helped put the Philadelphia Eagles on the scoreboard early.
After receiving news of the award, Davis credited his teammates for their support and energy. “I told everybody at practice today after it was announced that I really couldn’t do it without them,” Davis said on Wednesday. “Not only because of the things on the field, but also because of the energy that they have. It brings me joy to come to work every day. Getting to know these guys and sharing that, it’s one thing to work with these people but to actually get to know them and have fun and crack jokes with them, that’s special to me. I wouldn’t have that same juice, that same drive, if I didn’t have them.”
This marks Davis’ second weekly honor this season; he previously earned NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his game-winning blocked field goal turned touchdown against the Los Angeles Rams. He is now the first player in Eagles history to win both Special Teams and Defensive Player of the Week honors in a single season.
Davis is currently having his best year as a professional football player. He has recorded a career-high three sacks along with 33 tackles and 10 quarterback pressures while playing 61 percent of defensive snaps.
