Of course, Kyle Schwarber’s 1,000th career hit was a home run. The Philadelphia Phillies player achieved this milestone during Friday night’s game against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. Schwarber hit two home runs in the game, leading his team to a 12-5 victory.
Schwarber’s first homer of the night tied the game in the fifth inning with a speed of 113.8 mph. Reflecting on reaching 1,000 hits, he said, “It’s just a joy to play the game.” He spoke about his childhood dreams and how grateful he is for his career.
His second home run was even faster at 115 mph and added insurance runs for the Phillies in the eighth inning. Phillies manager Rob Thomson praised Schwarber’s performance: “I’ve said it all along: I don’t know where we’d be without him.”
J.T. Realmuto also contributed significantly with a three-run homer that put Philadelphia ahead in the seventh inning. The Phillies scored ten runs across the final innings to secure their win.
Schwarber now holds an MLB record with 319 home runs by his 1,000th hit, surpassing Mark McGwire and Aaron Judge. Despite joking about whether this is good or not due to many hits being homers, Schwarber remains focused on his performance.
After hitting his milestone homer into right-center field where three Phillies fans were seated, Schwarber met them post-game and exchanged autographs for their support.
As a free agent after this season, Schwarber acknowledged fan support over recent years: “It’s been fantastic these last 3½ years.” With four consecutive seasons of at least 35 homers since joining Philadelphia in 2022, fans hope he’ll re-sign next year.
In Friday’s match against Yankees – marking his career’s thirty-third multihomer game – he reached thirty-six homers this season trailing only Shohei Ohtani from Dodgers within National League standings.
Eleven out of thirty-six have been struck harder than one hundred ten miles per hour making him among few players achieving such feat alongside Ohtani (16), James Wood (13) from Nationals & Judge (12).
Schwarber has maintained form post-All-Star break scoring six times over seven games following leading NL through Home Run Derby-style swingoff during All-Star event itself where speculations arise regarding potential positive impact upon sluggers’ swings contrary popular belief surrounding derby participation affecting performances negatively thereafter which prompted laughter when questioned about correlation between events yet undeniable fact remains current hot streak continues unabatedly according Thomson remarking “Schwarbers monster right now”.
