Senators Scott Martin and Joe Picozzi have sponsored a resolution in the Pennsylvania Senate to recognize Catholic Schools Week, which runs from January 25 through 31. The resolution honors the nearly 140,000 students who are enrolled in Catholic schools across the state.
Both senators attended Catholic schools themselves. Senator Martin graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School in Lancaster, while Senator Picozzi is an alumnus of Holy Ghost Preparatory School in Bensalem.
“As a proud product of a Catholic school, I feel grateful to have received a quality education in a learning environment that emphasized strong values and character,” Martin said. “Lancaster Catholic played a key role in preparing me for the challenges I’ve encountered throughout my life. I am proud to sponsor a resolution designating this observance with Senator Picozzi.”
According to available data, almost all students at Catholic schools graduate, and most continue on to college.
“Catholic schools – especially in Northeast Philadelphia – have long been anchors of our communities, providing strong academics while instilling lasting values,” Picozzi said. “I am a proud graduate of the parochial school system and proudly represent 15 Catholic schools in my district.”
For further information, Jason Thompson represents Senator Martin and Danielle LaBrake represents Senator Picozzi.
