With the Major League Baseball Trade Deadline approaching, speculation is rife about which teams might make significant moves. The MLB Pipeline Podcast recently discussed ten teams poised to make trades. Jim Callis and Jonathan Mayo, along with host Jason Ratliff, highlighted teams with both the prospects and desire to engage in major trades.
Jim Callis pointed out that “the Cubs are the team with prospects to trade and the desire to make a trade.” The Cubs have several top prospects in Triple-A who could be used in potential deals as they aim for playoff success.
Jonathan Mayo noted Jerry Dipoto’s history of making trades, saying, “I would be surprised if they don’t do something to bolster their big league team.” He mentioned several Top 100 players from the Mariners’ farm system who could be involved in trades.
Mayo also commented on Dave Dombrowski’s approach with the Phillies: “He has never shied away from a Deadline deal or trades of any kind to help build a winner.”
Callis discussed the Tigers’ ambitions: “I think they’re looking to make a deep run,” though he acknowledged their reluctance to trade top prospects like Kevin McGonigle or Max Clark.
The Dodgers were also mentioned by Callis, who said they “always seem to have a deep farm system” and could pursue reinforcements despite injuries affecting key players.
Mayo expressed curiosity about what moves the Mets might make: “I’m curious to see what they do,” highlighting several prospects who could be part of trade packages.
The Brewers’ farm system was praised by Mayo as potentially one of baseball’s best, although he noted some key players unlikely to be traded.
Callis described the Yankees as “always active at the Trade Deadline,” noting their willingness to trade young pitchers due to confidence in developing new talent.
Mayo assessed another team’s depth but questioned which players might realistically be traded given current circumstances.
Finally, Callis touched on recent activity involving Rafael Devers and other young talents within another organization’s system, suggesting possible future trades due to overcrowding at certain positions.
