The University of Pennsylvania’s fencing teams will host the Dave Micahnik Penn Invitational this weekend, starting Saturday, January 17 and continuing through Sunday, January 18. The event will take place at the Tse Center in Philadelphia, with the first bouts scheduled for 8:30 a.m. each day.
Teams from Cornell, Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU), Haverford, Lafayette, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), New York University (NYU), Ohio State, Sacred Heart, Temple, UC San Diego, Wagner, and Yale are set to compete alongside Penn.
According to the United States Fencing Coaches Association’s mid-season rankings, Penn’s men’s team is ranked seventh nationally while the women’s team holds the eighth spot. In their last competition at the Elite Invitational hosted by Ohio State in late 2025, Penn’s women finished with three wins and five losses; the men posted six wins against two losses.
The men’s team enters this weekend on a five-match winning streak. Epee and saber squads have contributed significantly to this run and currently hold records of seven wins and one loss in their respective events. On the women’s side, epee athletes lead with a six-win and two-loss record so far this season.
