University of Pennsylvania sophomore Manama Fofana has been named Gymnast of the Week by the Gymnastics East Conference (GEC), according to an announcement made Wednesday. Fofana’s recognition follows her recent performance against Bridgeport, where she secured three first-place finishes and set a new personal record with a 9.875 on the floor exercise.
In addition to her achievement on the floor, Fofana also won the vault event with a score of 9.825 and the beam with 9.775, both marking her best scores this season. Her contributions were instrumental in leading the Penn Quakers to a 194.900-190.500 victory over Bridgeport.
Fofana has consistently performed well throughout the season, never placing lower than sixth in any of her ten events so far. Her results have improved each week and have helped Penn achieve its first-ever 4-0 start in program history.
Fofana is joined by freshman Ananya Patanakul as Penn gymnasts who have received GEC awards this year.
