The University of Pennsylvania men’s and women’s squash teams continued their undefeated seasons with victories over the University of Virginia, each winning by a score of 7-2 in matches held in Philadelphia.
For the women’s team, this marked the first time this season they have won consecutive matches against top 10 ranked opponents. Malak Taha and Malak Khafagy began the match with three-game sweeps. Sohalia Ismail and team captain Franka Vidovic both secured their second wins in as many days, also winning in straight games. Allie Stoddard and Savannah Ingledew added to Penn’s tally, closing out the final two victories for the team.
On the men’s side, Zane Patel opened with a three-game win over Maxwell Velazquez. The team celebrated back-to-back national championships with a ring ceremony before improving their record to 5-0. Team captain Omar Hafez overcame Virginia’s Juan Irissari in four games at the top position. Salman Khalil earned another win by defeating JP Tew in three games, while Rehan Luthra came from behind to beat Ewan Harris 3-2 after being down 2-1. Gregory Malsang contributed another victory during his first season with Penn by defeating Oscar Okonkwo 3-1. Will Newman and Alexander Dartnell maintained their unbeaten records with wins in their respective matches.
Men’s individual results included victories for Omar Hafez, Salman Khalil, Alexander Dartnell, Gregory Malsang, Zane Patel, Rehan Luthra, and Will Newman. On the women’s side, winners were Malak Khafagy, Franka Vidovic, Sohalia Ismail, Malak Taha, Allie Stoddard, Ashna Tumuluri, and Savannah Ingledew.
