Penn men’s tennis posts early victories at ITA Sectionals tournament

The University of Pennsylvania men’s tennis team began the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Sectionals tournament in North Carolina with a series of wins. Senior Manfredi Graziani secured a straight-sets victory against Constantinos Djakouris from the University of North Carolina, 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles play, Shaurya Bharadwaj and Vojtech Vales achieved an upset by defeating the second-seeded pair from South Carolina, Lucas Andrade da Silva and Paul Barbier Gazeu, with scores of 7-5 and 6-4. Later in the day, Graziani teamed up with junior Aaron Sandler to win against Charlotte’s Ivan Dreycopp and Vasco Prata, taking the match 6-4, 2-6, 10-5.

Graziani is scheduled to face Paul Barbier Gazeu from South Carolina next. The duo of Bharadwaj and Vales will compete against UNC’s Mangiapane and Wright. Graziani and Sandler are also set to play against Bryant’s Machado and Baquero.
