The Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association (IRCA) has announced its 2025 Empacher-IRCA All-America teams and Scholar Athletes. The University of Pennsylvania men’s heavyweight crew saw four recent graduates recognized as All-Americans.

Sam Sullivan was named to the first team for the third consecutive year. Olympian Isak Zvegelj received second-team honors, while Matt Davis and Charles Jones earned honorable mentions. For Davis, this marks his fourth All-America recognition at Penn, having been a two-time second-team selection and receiving honorable mention twice before.

Eligibility for the Empacher-IRCA Scholar Athlete recognition requires student-athletes to be in at least their second year of eligibility, compete in the program’s top three boats during the season or race at the 2023 IRA Championship, and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher through the fall semester. Nine members of Penn’s heavyweight crew were honored for their academic and athletic achievements.

The list of 2025 Empacher-IRCA All-Americans includes Sam Sullivan on the first team, Isak Zvegelj on the second team, with Matt Davis and Charles Jones receiving honorable mentions.

The 2025 Empacher-IRCA Scholar Athletes from Penn are Cole Bruen, Laurel Caruso (coxswain), James Glomb, Charles Jones, Matt Radell, Tommy Schrieber, Red Staunton, Austin Straley, and James Votruba-Drzal.
