The University of Pennsylvania softball team lost both games against Harvard on April 18, with scores of 8-0 and 11-6. The games took place in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

These results are significant for Penn as they continue their season within the Ivy League, seeking to improve their standing and performance. The losses also highlight areas for growth as the team prepares for upcoming matchups.

In the first game, Harvard scored early with a two-run home run by Sophie Sun after Penn’s Jade Montgomery reached base in the opening inning. Penn threatened in the third inning when Jaz Johnson reached base on a bunt and stole second, followed by Gigi Ganje drawing a walk. However, both runners were left stranded as Penn was unable to capitalize. Harvard extended its lead with several runs in subsequent innings, including three more runs in the fifth that ended the game due to an eight-run rule.

The second game saw freshman Peyton Heisler hit her first career home run to give Penn an early lead. Montgomery also contributed with a home run after Harvard responded with three runs of their own. Despite a late effort from Penn—scoring three runs in the top of the fifth—the Quakers could not overcome Harvard’s offensive surge and ultimately fell short.

According to the team’s summary, “Peyton Heisler hit her first career home run in game two today.” Additionally, “Jade Montgomery and Jaz Johnson combined for four hits in both games,” highlighting individual contributions amid challenging outcomes.

Penn is scheduled to conclude its series against Harvard tomorrow at 12:30 p.m., before returning home for its final non-conference game of 2026 against Villanova.
