The University of Pennsylvania softball team will host the Villanova Wildcats at Penn Park for its last non-conference game of the season, according to an April 21 announcement. The matchup is scheduled for Wednesday, April 22 at 12:30 p.m.
This game marks a continuation of the series between Penn and Villanova, with the Quakers holding a record of 28 wins, 52 losses, and three ties against the Wildcats. Last year’s contest ended in a high-scoring tie at 12-12, while Penn’s most recent victory over Villanova came in 2024 with a score of 4-1.
The Quakers currently stand fourth in the Ivy League standings with an overall record of 16-21 and a conference record of 7-8. They are just half a game ahead of Brown for the final spot in the Ivy League Tournament. Head coach Christie Novatin recently achieved her thirtieth career win at Penn following their victory over Harvard.
Jaz Johnson continues to lead all players in stolen bases within the Ivy League this season with twelve steals. For Villanova, which enters Wednesday’s matchup with a record of ten wins and thirty-five losses (5-13 BIG EAST), Maddie Burrows leads offensively by batting .342 with ten doubles and ten runs batted in so far this year. On pitching duties, Kat Gallant has recorded forty-three strikeouts across sixteen appearances.
