Penn squash teams secure victories over Columbia; women reach ten wins

The University of Pennsylvania men’s and women’s squash teams achieved victories over Columbia University in matches held in New York City on Friday. The women’s team reached their 10th win of the season, becoming the first team in the College Squash Association (CSA) to achieve double-digit wins this year.

Franka Vidovic led the women’s squad with a straight-set victory over Nourin Khalifa, marking her ninth win of the season. Seven members of the Penn women’s team, including Vidovic, recorded 3-0 sweeps against their opponents. Savannah Ingledew remained undefeated at 9-0 and currently leads the team in total wins.

On the men’s side, Omar Hafez secured a 3-1 win over Yusuf Sheikh after his recent national championship performance at the CSA Individual Championships. Hafez is now tied for most wins on the men’s team with eight. Teammates Salman Khalil, Alex Dartnell, Rehan Luthra, and Varun Chitturi each posted 3-0 sweeps in their matches.

The Quakers will face Cornell University next in Ithaca on Saturday at 2 p.m.

The University of Pennsylvania women’s lacrosse team lost to sixth-ranked Florida by a score of 18-9 on March 11. Sophomore Lela Greene recorded her first hat trick of the season for Penn. The Quakers will next face Georgetown on March 15.
