The University of Pennsylvania women’s basketball team will travel to Providence, Rhode Island, to play against Brown University on Saturday, January 10. The game is scheduled for 2 p.m. and marks the Quakers’ second Ivy League matchup of the season.

Penn comes into this contest with a 10-4 overall record and is looking to rebound after a loss to Princeton in its Ivy League opener. The Quakers fell to the Tigers, 74-68, ending their five-game winning streak and dropping their conference record to 0-1. In that game, Penn narrowed a nine-point deficit in the fourth quarter with a strong run but was unable to hold off Princeton’s response.

Reflecting on their recent form, Penn has matched its best start since the 2019-20 season with ten wins through fourteen games. Over their last six games, they have held opponents to an average of 55.6 points per game while scoring an average of 65.8 points themselves. Defensively and offensively, Penn currently ranks in the top three among Ivy League teams.

Sophomore forward Katie Collins has been recognized for her performances over the past week, earning both Big 5 and Ivy League Player of the Week honors as well as tournament MVP at the FDU Christmas Classic. She scored double digits against UMES and Binghamton during that tournament and added another 15 points in Penn’s loss to Princeton.

In terms of leadership, “Penn has five players leading the team as captains in 2025-26, tying a program record for a single season.” This group includes seniors Saniah Caldwell, Simone Sawyer, Georgia Heine; junior Mataya Gayle; and sophomore Katie Collins.

Saturday’s opponent Brown holds a 9-4 overall record and started Ivy League play with an 88-72 win over Yale—its third consecutive victory. Brown leads the league in rebounding (42.2 rebounds per game) but ranks lowest in free throw percentage (60 percent). Senior Alyssa Moreland averages a double-double with league-leading figures in rebounds (10.8 per game) and field goal percentage (55 percent), while Grace Arnolie tops Brown’s scoring at 17 points per game.

Historically, Penn has won seven out of its last ten meetings against Brown but dropped two of their previous three encounters. Last season’s matchup saw senior Stina Almqvist become just the 26th player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points.

Statistically this year, Collins ranks second among Ivy League players with an average of 7.8 rebounds per game behind Moreland’s mark at Brown; she also sits second for total blocked shots (24). Penn’s defense allows only about 56 points per game—third best in the league—and leads all conference teams from the free throw line at over eighty percent accuracy.
