Penn women’s cross country opens season with win at New Jersey Jam

The University of Pennsylvania women’s cross country team began its 2025 season with a win at the New Jersey Jam, an event hosted by Princeton in Princeton, N.J. The team scored 32 points to secure first place, ahead of Princeton with 42 points and Monmouth with 77.

Senior Lara Cota led Penn’s women by finishing second overall with a time of 14:07.4. Gabby Jones finished fourth at 14:09.1, while freshman Izzy Rodriguez placed fifth in her debut for the Quakers, recording a time of 14:10.6. L’Mio Edwards came in ninth at 14:13.3, and Kyra Compton rounded out the scoring for Penn in twelfth place at 14:20.7.

On the men’s side, the team focused on running as a group rather than individual placements. Esfan Daya was the top finisher for Penn’s men, coming in twelfth with a time of 17:33.8. Shamus Larnard, Sahil Dodda, and Liam Going all finished together at 17:33.9, placing fifteenth through seventeenth respectively. Kofi Fordjour completed the team’s scoring by finishing one-tenth of a second later at 17:34.0.

The next competition for both teams will be the Main Line Invitational in Haverford, Pa., scheduled for September 19.
