Penn women’s tennis ends losing streak with sweep over Lehigh

The University of Pennsylvania women’s tennis team secured a 7-0 victory over Lehigh on Saturday at the Hecht Tennis Center in Philadelphia. This win ended Penn’s two-game losing streak and marked their sixth overall win of the season, as well as their fourth at home.

Penn started strong by winning two out of three doubles matches. The pairs of Sasha Motlagh and Liza Tkachenko, along with Lara Stojanovski and Varsha Vedula, gave Penn an early lead.

Freshman Joleen Saw was the first to claim a singles victory for Penn, winning her match without dropping a game. Lara Stojanovski followed with another decisive singles win at the top position in the lineup. Sarah Wang earned her first singles win of the spring season, taking her match 6-0, 6-2.

Additional victories from Varsha Vedula, Liza Tkachenko, and Maya Urata completed the sweep for Penn. This result marks Penn’s third sweep this spring.

In doubles play:
– Maya Urata and Joleen Saw were leading Maggie Forkner and Hannah Letzer before their match was abandoned.
– Sasha Motlagh and Liza Tkachenko defeated Ronit Khromchenko and Skye Yonehara 6-1.
– Lara Stojanovski and Varsha Vedula beat Alice Pantsari and Bella Peters 6-1.

Singles results included:
– Lara Stojanovski defeating Maggie Forkner 6-1, 6-1.
– Maya Urata beating Giselle Vlassis 7-5, 6-3.
– Joleen Saw overcoming Ronit Khromchenko 6-0, 6-0.
– Liza Tkachenko besting Skye Yonehara 6-1, 6-3.
– Varsha Vedula winning against Alice Pantsari 6-2, 6-3.
– Sarah Wang topping Alina Shyani 6-0, 6-2.

The Quakers are scheduled to face Maryland in College Park on Sunday at noon.
