Penn women’s tennis falls to Brown 4-1 in Providence

The University of Pennsylvania women’s tennis team lost to Brown by a score of 4-1 in Providence on April 18.

The match saw Brown secure the doubles point after winning two out of three matches, giving them an early lead. In singles play, Penn’s Esha Velaga earned a win at the top spot, but Brown won three additional singles matches to clinch the overall victory.

Following this result, Penn’s record stands at 11-11 overall and 2-4 in Ivy League competition with one match left in the season. The doubles results included Ali Maguy and Anne Yang from Brown defeating Joleen Saw and Maya Urata from Penn, as well as Chloe Qin and Francesca Saroli from Brown beating Sasha Motlagh and Liza Tkachenko from Penn. One doubles match did not finish.

In singles action, Velaga defeated Ali Maguy of Brown. However, Hannah Shen, Abigail Lee, and Anne Yang all secured wins for the Bears against their respective opponents from Penn. Two other singles matches were unfinished when play concluded.

Looking ahead, the Quakers will close out their regular season with a match against Yale scheduled for tomorrow at 1 p.m.
