The University of Pennsylvania women’s soccer team is set to continue its homestand with two upcoming matches at home. The Quakers will host Drexel on Thursday, August 28 at 6 p.m., followed by a game against George Mason on Sunday, August 31 at 2 p.m. Both games will be available for viewing on ESPN+.
Penn holds a historical advantage over Drexel, with an all-time record of 9-3-1 in their matchups. The last meeting between the teams occurred in 2024, when Drexel defeated Penn 2-1 at Vidas Field. However, Penn has never lost to Drexel at home, holding a 5-0-1 record in those games.
Against George Mason, Penn trails slightly in the all-time series at 4-5 but leads the home series 3-1. In their most recent encounter, the Quakers secured a 2-1 victory over the Patriots.
This season, Penn returns several key players from last year’s roster. Annabel Austen, Clare Robke, Mia Fuss, Anuli Okafor, Taylor Ferraro, Eden Veenema, and Lily White are back for the new campaign. Goalkeeper Annabel Austen stands out as the only returning All-Ivy player for Penn after being named First Team All-Ivy last year. Austen led the Ivy League with 74 saves and played every minute of her junior season.
Newcomers this year include freshmen Lauren Anderson, Kylie Emanuel, Casey Forman, Landon Lipton, Leah Lynch, Nicki Masseur, Zula Root, Lauren Stevens, Keira Taylor and assistant coach Seve Hirst.
The Quakers started their season with a strong performance against Mount Saint Mary’s, winning 5-0. Leigha Matter and Lauren Stevens each scored their first collegiate goals in that match. Mallory Lucas, Abbey Cook and Mia Fuss also contributed goals.
Drexel comes into Thursday’s match with a record of 1-0-3 this season; their only win so far was against Saint Joseph’s by a score of 2-0. Elise Duffy leads Drexel in points with four so far this year. Goalkeeper Sammy Widnick recently recorded a shutout with four saves.
George Mason enters Sunday’s contest looking for its first win of the season after starting out 0-2-1. Sophomore Mia Arevalo-Delcid and graduate student Ariana Reyes have each scored once this year for the Patriots; Isabella Yousefi has registered an assist.
