Under the leadership of new head coach Rick Tocchet, the Philadelphia Flyers have seen renewed energy and team spirit in the early part of the 2025-26 NHL season. The third episode of “The Flyers Way,” a docuseries presented by Xfinity, highlights key moments and individuals who have influenced the team’s progress during this period.
The series documents the Flyers’ challenging start to their season with a three-game set against the reigning Stanley Cup champions, the Florida Panthers. The opening game took place in Sunrise, Florida, where Noah Cates scored Philadelphia’s first goal of the season to tie the game before they ultimately lost 2-1. Shortly after, following an away game against Carolina that earned them one point, the Flyers returned home for their opener at Xfinity Mobile Arena. In that match, captain Sean Couturier led with two goals and two assists as Philadelphia secured a 5-2 victory over Florida.
“We were 0-1-1 coming in. Winning this game in front of our fans gave us a lot of confidence. There was a lot of energy in the building,” Couturier said about their first win at home.
Another focus is Trevor Zegras, who joined from Anaheim and quickly became a leading scorer for Philadelphia. Zegras has made an impression both on and off the ice—contributing to plays and shootouts while bringing enthusiasm to his teammates. The episode features him interacting with teammate Jamie Drysdale during practice sessions and showing positive energy on the bench.
Goaltender Dan Vladar is also highlighted for his consistent performances since joining the team. From his debut in Florida onward, Vladar has given Philadelphia strong chances to win most nights and has formed quick bonds with fellow goalie Samuel Ersson. The show provides insight into goalie coach Kim Dillabaugh’s work with Vladar and Ersson during practices, focusing on both technical skills and psychological support.
Off the ice, viewers see Vladar spending time with his family and discussing how he enjoys living in Philadelphia: “The fans are like a seventh guy on the ice for us,” Vladar commented.
This season also marks a tribute to Bernie Parent, an iconic figure for both players and fans. After each victory, a player is awarded a replica of Parent’s distinctive white mask—a tradition designed by Franny Drummond to honor Parent’s legacy from his days playing in the 1970s. Following their first win against Florida, Couturier chose Vladar as recipient of this symbolic mask; after their second win over Minnesota on October 18th (a 2-1 overtime result), Vladar selected another teammate for recognition.
