PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Phillies had an impressive start against the Boston Red Sox at Citizens Bank Park, with Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper hitting back-to-back home runs in the first inning. This early lead of 3-0 was achieved off Red Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito.
Schwarber hit a two-run homer, his 34th of the season, by connecting with a 2-0 changeup from Giolito. Harper followed by hitting his career’s 350th home run, making him one of only eight active players to reach this milestone. At 32 years old, Harper is the youngest among these players.
The Statcast recorded Harper’s home run at a projected distance of 439 feet and an exit velocity of 110.8 mph, both personal bests for him this season.
Schwarber has been performing strongly this season with a .934 OPS ranking ninth in baseball. Meanwhile, Harper had a slower start due to right wrist inflammation but has been on an upswing recently.
Harper’s recent performance includes batting .429 over nine games with nine doubles, four home runs, seven RBIs, and a 1.529 OPS.
