The Philadelphia Phillies have moved up to the fourth spot in the latest MLB Power Rankings, reflecting their competitive stance in the National League East. The rankings are compiled by MLB.com contributors, and this week’s results show significant movement among several teams.
The Detroit Tigers maintain their position at the top of the rankings despite a recent three-game losing streak. Manager A.J. Hinch remains confident, stating, “[Sunday], 12 noon, come watch us if you’re here,’’ Hinch said. “If you’re not, watch us on TV. We have a good team. We’ll be fine.’’ The Tigers secured a victory on Sunday.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have climbed to second place from fifth, buoyed by Shohei Ohtani’s impressive performance on Sunday. Ohtani pitched a scoreless first inning with two strikeouts and contributed offensively with a home run and a two-run triple.
Meanwhile, Ian Happ of the Chicago Cubs has been making strides after a slow start to the season. “I was definitely frustrated,” Happ said regarding his earlier performance. “I just wanted to do more and wanted to help more.”
Bryce Harper’s return remains uncertain for the Phillies as he continues to deal with wrist inflammation since June 5. Harper commented on his condition: “We haven’t really gotten too many answers about it… There’s no structural issues.”
The New York Mets have dropped from second to fifth following a seven-game losing streak that included sending Francisco Alvarez down due to his .652 OPS and defensive concerns.
In other news, Jeremy Peña of the Houston Astros is having an outstanding season with hopes of making his first All-Star Game appearance due to his strong offensive numbers.
As for other teams, Chris Sale of the Atlanta Braves is out with a fractured rib while Ronald Acuña Jr. expressed interest in participating in this year’s T-Mobile Home Run Derby if invited.
These rankings reflect ongoing shifts within Major League Baseball as teams vie for top positions heading into mid-season.
