The Philadelphia Phillies delivered a powerful performance on Friday night, scoring a season-high 13 runs against the Atlanta Braves after an unexpected rain delay. The game at Truist Park was delayed for two hours and 19 minutes due to sudden pop-up storms that brought heavy rain.
Despite the wait, the Phillies’ offense came alive, securing a 13-0 victory in the series opener. The team hit five home runs, marking their highest of the season. Otto Kemp celebrated his first career home run, while Kyle Schwarber added his 25th of the season. Trea Turner contributed with two home runs.
The delay occurred just before the scheduled start time of 7:15 p.m., catching both teams off guard. Starting pitchers Mick Abel for the Phillies and Bryce Elder for the Braves had already warmed up when the grounds crew quickly covered the field with a tarp as storms moved in.
The weather eventually settled into a steady rain, allowing play to resume and enabling the Phillies to showcase their offensive strength.
