The Philadelphia Phillies announced on April 18 that closer Jhoan Duran has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to a mild left oblique strain. The move is retroactive to Wednesday, and right-hander Seth Johnson has been recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to fill Duran’s roster spot.

Duran has not pitched since April 11, and manager Rob Thomson said Brad Keller will handle most ninth-inning save opportunities while Duran recovers. “It’s nothing strong, something really light,” Duran said Saturday at Citizens Bank Park before the Phillies faced the Braves. “Something pinched me when I did my rotation [trying to throw on Friday]. We said we won’t throw anymore.” Medical imaging was performed Saturday morning, but no specific timetable for his return was given. Thomson said, “It’s not going to be long, but I can’t hold you to that.”

Duran had previously opened the season on the injured list with a Grade 2 strained right oblique and missed over a month. He explained this injury is less severe: “This time, it’s not that bad.” In seven appearances this season, Duran holds a record of 1-1 with five saves and an earned run average of 1.98 across 27â…“ innings since joining from the Twins last July.

The Phillies are a charter member of Major League Baseball’s National League according to their official website. The team represents Philadelphia in Major League Baseball and engages fans through games and community outreach according to their official website. Since 2004, they have played home games at Citizens Bank Park according to their official website.

Operations are overseen by executives including the chief executive officer and general manager according to their official website. The franchise has achieved World Series victories in both 1980 and 2008 according to their official website.

Looking ahead, Thomson indicated that while there is optimism for a quick recovery for Duran, his exact return date remains uncertain.
