Several top prospects across Major League Baseball’s farm systems are posting strong offensive numbers as the playoff races and trade deadline approach. Yankees outfielder Spencer Jones leads all Minor Leaguers over the past month, batting .427 with 12 home runs in 18 Triple-A games, which could result in a call-up or inclusion in a major trade.
Mariners first baseman Tyler Locklear has also excelled recently, hitting .407 with nine home runs in his last 22 Triple-A contests. His performance led to a promotion to Seattle on Wednesday.
Among other notable performers, Blue Jays prospect Juan Sanchez has raised his profile with a .333 average and 12 extra-base hits over his last 21 games at the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League. Orioles catcher Samuel Basallo, despite missing time due to injury, is hitting .313 in Triple-A and leads full-season Orioles players with a 156 wRC+.
Rays catcher Dominic Keegan is making an impact for Triple-A Durham after returning from injury, while Red Sox outfielder Yophery Rodriguez has rebounded from early struggles by batting .338 over his last 18 games. For the Yankees, Jones now leads the Minors in home runs (29), slugging (.707), and OPS (1.119), and he has reduced his strikeout rate during this stretch.
Other hot hitters include Guardians first baseman Ralphy Velazquez (.338 average over his last 20 High-A games), Royals catcher Carter Jensen (.328 average with seven homers since arriving at Triple-A Omaha), Tigers outfielder Max Clark (batting .420 during a recent hitting streak), Twins outfielder Gabriel Gonzalez (.353 average at Double-A), and White Sox infielder Caleb Bonemer (10 extra-base hits in his last 18 Single-A games).
In the National League East, Phillies outfielder Dante Nori—Philadelphia’s first-round pick in 2024—has improved after a slow start. Over the past month, Nori is hitting .282/.409/.507 with ten stolen bases and maintains an OPS of .858 since June 1. He draws many walks while rarely striking out and has collected 28 steals on the season.
Additional standout performances come from Brewers second baseman Josh Adamczewski (returning strong after injury), Cardinals shortstop JJ Wetherholt (ten extra-base hits in twelve Triple-A games), Cubs outfielder Owen Caissie (.329 average with eight homers recently), Pirates outfielder Edward Florentino (seven homers and sixteen steals this month), Reds shortstop Tyson Lewis (.330 average over thirty days), D-backs outfielder Druw Jones (four homers after none earlier this season), Dodgers outfielder Zyhir Hope (.299 average at High-A), Giants outfielder Dakota Jordan (.314 average before injury) and Padres shortstop Leo De Vries (posting solid OBP/SLG numbers as an eighteen-year-old at High-A).
Rockies prospect Zac Veen has returned from injury to hit .333 over thirty days for Triple-A Albuquerque.
“Yankees outfielder Spencer Jones has been the hottest hitter in the Minors over the past month, slashing .427/.477/.987 with 12 homers in 18 Triple-A games entering Wednesday. That performance could get him promoted to the Majors — or included in a blockbuster deal.”
“After Jones, Mariners first baseman Tyler Locklear has impressed as much as anyone. He went on a .407/.481/.779 run with nine homers in his last 22 Triple-A contests, leading Seattle to promote him on Wednesday.”
“In addition to Jones and Locklear, here are the hottest hitters in each farm system:”
“The Phillies’ ’24 first-rounder, Nori has shaken off a rough start to his first full pro season with back-to-back solid months. Over his last 30 days, he’s hit .282/.409/.507 with 10 steals and he’s had a very strong .858 OPS since June 1. He draws a ton of walks and rarely strikes out, has 28 steals on the season and has nudged his wRC+ up to 108.”
These performances reflect how several young players are pushing toward Major League opportunities or increasing their value ahead of possible trades as teams look for ways to strengthen their rosters late into summer.
