Gage Wood, the Philadelphia Phillies’ No. 4 prospect, delivered another strong performance on April 15 for Single-A Clearwater, striking out four batters and allowing just one hit over four scoreless innings in a game against Dunedin at TD Ballpark.

Wood’s early season results have drawn attention because he has not allowed more than two hits in any of his starts so far. In 11 and one-third professional innings since being selected as the 26th pick in the 2025 Draft, Wood has recorded 19 strikeouts while giving up only one run on four hits and five walks, resulting in an earned run average of 0.79.

In his third start of the season, Wood generated eight swings-and-misses with a whiff rate of nearly 28 percent. He relied heavily on his fastball—described as a ’70-grade four-seamer’—which averaged over 95 miles per hour and topped out at almost 97 miles per hour. His slider and changeup were used less frequently but showed effectiveness; the slider achieved a chase rate of fifty percent while the changeup produced significant horizontal movement and contributed to a key strikeout.

Wood faced some difficulty with three walks—a personal high—but managed to escape trouble by inducing a double play to end his final inning. Last year, he made history at Arkansas by recording nineteen strikeouts during the first Men’s College World Series no-hitter in sixty-five years. That achievement increased his profile ahead of being drafted by Philadelphia as their first-round pick—the first college pitcher they selected that early since Aaron Nola in 2014.

The Philadelphia Phillies are charter members of Major League Baseball’s National League according to their official website. The team serves fans locally and nationally through games and community outreach as reported by their official website, plays home games at Citizens Bank Park since 2004 according to their official website, and is led by executives including its chief executive officer and general manager according to their official website. The franchise won World Series titles in both 1980 and 2008 according to their official website.

As Wood continues his development within the Phillies organization, observers will watch whether he can maintain this level of performance as competition intensifies.
