As the Minor League Baseball season nears its conclusion, several pitching prospects across all 30 MLB organizations continue to deliver strong performances, showing resilience despite the typical late-season fatigue.
For the Philadelphia Phillies, left-hander Mavis Graves has emerged as a standout in their system. After overcoming early challenges at Single-A earlier this year, Graves has found his rhythm with High-A Jersey Shore. He recorded a 1.72 ERA over four July starts and improved further in August with a 0.92 ERA across four starts. Over his last seven outings—a stretch covering 32 2/3 innings—Graves allowed only two earned runs and held opponents to a .159 batting average for the month. Notably, he pitched scoreless games in six of those seven starts.
The report highlights similar progress from other teams’ prospects as well:
– Gage Stanifer (Blue Jays) maintained momentum with three consecutive quality starts and a 2.00 ERA in August.
– Michael Forret (Orioles) was promoted to Double-A after not allowing an earned run in his final High-A outings.
– Brody Hopkins (Rays) bounced back from a tough July start to post a 1.13 ERA over his last three appearances.
– Other organizations also saw impressive results from young arms like Yhoiker Fajardo (Red Sox), Kyle Carr (Yankees), Braylon Doughty (Guardians), and David Shields (Royals).
Among National League East rivals, Jonah Tong of the Mets was described by manager Carlos Mendoza as dominating the Minor Leagues ahead of his MLB debut: “It’s all about him dominating the Minor Leagues.” Jarlin Susana of the Nationals returned from injury and quickly reestablished himself with high strikeout totals since resuming play.
This roundup underscores how many clubs are witnessing late-summer surges from their pitching prospects as they approach season’s end.
