The 2025 MLB Draft has concluded, transitioning the focus from predictions to analysis. The draft, which included 20 rounds and 615 picks, is now being scrutinized for standout selections and valuable picks.

On a recent Pipeline Podcast episode, analysts Jim Callis, Jonathan Mayo, Sam Dykstra, and Jason Ratliff discussed the biggest steals from each of the first ten rounds. Their insights highlight some unexpected outcomes:

In Round 1, Jamie Arnold was selected by the Athletics at No. 11 despite being ranked No. 4. Dykstra noted comparisons to Chris Sale due to Arnold’s advanced fastball and slider.

During the compensation round, Brendan Summerhill was picked by the Rays at No. 42 but was ranked No. 16. Callis expressed surprise at his slide down the draft order.

Round 2 saw Devin Taylor taken by the Athletics at No. 48 while ranked No. 30. Mayo emphasized Taylor’s hitting prowess despite defensive concerns.

Anthony Eyanson went to the Red Sox in Round 3 as pick No. 87 though he was ranked No. 40. Dykstra highlighted Eyanson’s strong slider as a key asset for Boston.

Mason Neville was chosen by the Reds in Round 4 with pick No. 114 while being ranked No. 35; Callis called this a significant value pick given Neville’s performance in college baseball.

Matt Barr joined the Twins in Round 5 as pick No. 149 but was ranked No. 136; Mayo praised Barr’s pitching abilities and fastball velocity.

Josiah Hartshorn went to the Cubs in Round 6 as pick No.181 while being ranked at No.108; Dykstra pointed out Hartshorn’s unique background and potential power upside.
