The latest edition of the Starting Pitcher Power Rankings shows little change, with nine out of ten pitchers from the previous list maintaining their positions. The rankings, developed by MLB.com’s data team, rely on a formula that evaluates performance over the past year, emphasizing recent achievements.
Over the past two weeks, these pitchers collectively achieved a 14-3 record with a 1.97 ERA and accumulated 188 strikeouts in 168 2/3 innings. Notably, Chris Sale is the only pitcher to drop out due to injury.
Tarik Skubal of the Tigers remains at the top spot. His standout performances include five starts this season where he recorded at least 11 strikeouts and no more than one walk. Zack Wheeler from the Phillies follows closely after delivering an impressive June performance with a 0.58 ERA across 31 innings.
Hunter Brown of the Astros led Major League Baseball in ERA and ERA+ before his recent game against Coors Field, showcasing consistent excellence throughout his outings. Paul Skenes of the Pirates, despite some recent struggles by his standards, continues to lead in several key statistics including a low opponent slugging percentage.
Max Fried’s contribution to the Yankees has been significant as they have won most games when he starts. Framber Valdez’s role in helping the Astros surge ahead in their division is highlighted by a series of wins during his starts.
Garrett Crochet’s transition to starting pitcher for the Red Sox has been successful as he leads in innings pitched and strikeouts. Logan Webb consistently delivers quality starts for the Giants while Jacob deGrom maintains solid performances for the Rangers despite not matching his peak years.
Ranger Suárez enters the rankings following an impressive run with minimal runs allowed over several games for the Phillies.
Honorable mentions include pitchers such as Yoshinobu Yamamoto (Dodgers), Andrew Abbott (Reds), Cristopher Sánchez (Phillies), among others who are making notable contributions this season.
