Medscape has reported on research presented by Dr. Ahmad Raza, a Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellow at the Temple Lung Center, during the European Respiratory Society (ERS) Congress in Amsterdam. The study found that bilateral heterogenous emphysema is the most common form seen in patients referred for bronchoscopic lung volume reduction (BLVR). In this context, heterogeneity refers to a difference of 10% or 15% in the percentage of emphysematous destruction between the target lobe and the nontargeted ipsilateral lobe.
