Roxborough Memorial Hospital has announced the addition of Dr. Bereket Kahsai Tewoldemedhin, an Infectious Disease specialist, to its medical team. Dr. Tewoldemedhin will start his new role on August 13 and will primarily be based at St. Michael’s Medical Center in Newark, New Jersey, while also supporting the Roxborough community.

Dr. Tewoldemedhin completed his Fellowship in Infectious Disease at St. Michael’s Medical Center and previously finished his Internal Medicine residency at Lower Bucks Hospital in Bristol, Pennsylvania. His clinical background includes work in emergency departments, volunteer services, and general practice settings both in the United States and Ethiopia.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Tewoldemedhin to our team,” said Shawn Parekh, CEO of Roxborough Memorial Hospital. “His dedication to infectious disease management and diverse experience will greatly benefit our patients and enhance the quality of care we provide.”

Dr. Tewoldemedhin shared his perspective on joining the hospital: “I am excited to collaborate with the talented professionals at Roxborough and serve the community. Infectious diseases can profoundly impact health, and I look forward to contributing my knowledge and experience to improve patient outcomes.”

He began his medical education at Addis Ababa University College of Health Sciences in Ethiopia before gaining experience across various healthcare roles including emergency medicine.

Roxborough Memorial Hospital serves communities such as Roxborough, Manayunk, East Falls, and northwest Philadelphia with a 131-bed facility that has operated since 1890.
