With the second half of the baseball season underway, MLB.com’s latest Hitter Power Rankings have been released, showing significant changes from the previous edition. While Aaron Judge retains his top position, several new names and notable shifts among returning players have altered the rankings.
The rankings are determined by a formula that considers recent performance, season-long performance, and performance over the past year. The emphasis is placed on recent and season-long performances.
Aaron Judge of the Yankees continues to lead in multiple categories including batting average and slugging percentage. “Judge remains atop these rankings after reclaiming the top spot the last time around,” states MLB.com. Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers moves up two spots due to his impressive home run streak, while Cal Raleigh of the Mariners maintains his third-place position with his league-leading 39 home runs.
Kyle Schwarber of the Phillies makes a significant leap from ninth to fourth place. “The Schwarbombs have been falling with ferocious frequency,” notes MLB.com. Eugenio Suárez of the D-backs enters at fifth place following a strong home run performance.
Other notable entries include José Ramírez of the Guardians and Byron Buxton of the Twins. Ronald Acuña Jr., Will Smith, and Juan Soto round out the top ten, with Soto experiencing a drop due to recent struggles at bat.
Honorable mentions in this edition include Randy Arozarena, Michael Busch, Kyle Stowers, Corey Seager, George Springer, Nick Kurtz, Jose Altuve, Willy Adames, and Bobby Witt Jr.
